Meet Jasmine. She is my 15 year old daughter and she’s a sophomore in high school. She joins me this week to talk about teenagers *this day and age* and everything they either want their parents to know or wish they understood better. Jasmine is here to mostly speak on behalf of kids her age; what she’s heard, what she’s seen, and some of what she has experienced herself.
For those of us who are parents of teenagers, we know it’s an entirely different world from when we were their age. Some aspects bear some resemblance to what they were 30 years ago when I, myself was 15…and others are wildly different. But there is one thing that hasn’t changed, and that’s actually my primary reason for wanting to do this episode. And that is the feeling that our parents just don’t understand.
Today we’re gonna do our best to bridge the generational gap that can exist between teenagers and their parents by creating a dialogue that we hope will be duplicatable in other families and households. This episode will explore questions such as…
- What do teenagers struggle with or worry about most that their parents may not know about?
- Why don’t some teenagers confide in their parents? What are they afraid of?
- What can parents do to more, or less of to help their teenager open up to them more?
