Meet Lupe Ryan. Lupe has been my personal trainer in the gym for the past 7 years. She is an extremely driven & motivated individual, yet she’s extraordinarily quiet about it. For 10 years Lupe was immersed in the world of bodybuilding and is an 8 time figure competitor. After her last figure competition in 2016 she decided to retire from the sport of bodybuilding to take up mountain climbing. From Yosemite and Nepal to Ecuador and Russia, Lupe has climbed more than her fair share of 14,000-19,000 ft mountains…some of them, in the snow. These are the things Lupe does for fun. She doesn’t get paid to do them. This isn’t her job. This is what she loves, and the fact that it’s incredibly unrelatable for most of us is what makes her story so interesting.
In this episode we talk about the topic of fitness competitions; the prep and all the ins & outs relating to her participation in the sport of bodybuilding. We’ll also recount my personal weight loss & fitness journey that she was an integral part of. And of course we chat about her transition into mountain climbing where I ask her a bunch of questions about some of her most notable experiences & her internal desire to push herself into challenging endeavors.
There are some people who are just wired very differently. There are people who naturally enjoy subjecting themselves to challenge for the sake of the challenge, and the desire to do so is as normal as the desire to breathe. Lupe Ryan is one of those people, and she is joining us to talk all about this topic and more.
