In this episode we are discussing the topic of Alzheimers disease, and what life look might look like after a loved one receives this diagnosis. My guest today is Jennifer Fink. Jennifer is the host of the podcast Fading Memories. A show focused on sharing advice, wisdom, and hope, for caregivers and by caregivers, of loved ones who are living with Alzheimers. Her real world experience with this subject goes back decades, and today she joins us to share everything she’s learned about being a caregiver to a person with Alzheimers disease. Jennifer is an advocate for those living with this disease and is both a community educator & facilitator of an online support group through the Alzheimer’s Association, offering advice and support to local caregivers. I asked my own mom to be here as well. She herself has been navigating the fears & uncertainties that exist with Alzheimer’s after receiving news of her older sister’s diagnosis last year. When our once strong, sharp, & capable parents or family members begin to require the same level of care they once gave to us as children, this could result in an onslaught of emotions that we may not be prepared for. It could be very easy to start seeing them as a different person in the event an aging family member begins to display behavior that is inconsistent with what we’re familiar with. My goal for today, to raise our awareness of this disease, and increase our understanding about what it means to look beyond the grips of Alzheimers and see their humanity in spite of it.
