Meet Mia Vivone. As a Professional Consultant and Life Coach, Mia specializes in the area of trauma and is a member of the Stop Stigma Sacramento Speakers Bureau. Stop Stigma is an organization funded by The Sacramento County Department of Behavioral Health, & their mission is to reduce stigma and discrimination around the topic of mental health.
With a history of trauma that dates all the way back to childhood, Mia was a victim of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse as a child and survived homelessness, rapes, and life-threatening domestic assaults as a teenager and young woman. Mia found the tools to carve a pathway to healing, and reclaimed her own humanity after decades of compulsive self-harm, suicide attempts, and addiction. And for nearly two decades, she has helped other survivors reclaim their’s. In this episode Mia tells us her personal story that’s led to her career in professional coaching and survivor advocacy. We explore the stigma that is attached to mental illness, common barriers that prevent individuals from seeking help, and the resources available to anyone suffering in silence.
